PTFE Heat Seal Bar Coating
Precision PTFE coating service for heat seal bars used in pouch, bag, and flexible packaging lines. Workshop coating restores non stick performance, kills drag, and brings units back into spec on a predictable recoat schedule with a 5 to 7 business day standard turnaround.

Why heat seal bars fail
Heat seal bars run hot, cycle constantly, and contact polymer film thousands of times per shift. The PTFE surface degrades from thermal cycling, mechanical drag, and chemical attack from film additives and inks. When the coating wears through, you see seal defects, film tear, sticking, and rejected pouches at the end of the line. Most plants replace the bar, ship it out for recoating, or run with sub spec output until a maintenance window opens.
The AEGIS approach
AEGIS applies a precision PTFE coating system engineered for heat seal bar service. The coating is built around a fluoropolymer formulation tuned for repeated thermal cycling between 350 and 500 degrees Fahrenheit, with a release surface that holds up to film additives, slip agents, and adhesive transfer. Patent pending precision magnetic heat activation cures the coating at the molecular bond level without thermal damage to the bar substrate.
- Fast facility turnaround. Standard service: ship the bar, coated and returned within 5 to 7 business days. Emergency service for production critical lines: 48 to 72 hour turnaround.
- Service interval extension. Typical AEGIS coated heat seal bars run 2 to 4 times longer than commodity recoats between service cycles.
- Tight tolerance restoration. Coating thickness is held to a tolerance that preserves seal geometry. No build up, no profile distortion.
- Process validated. Every job runs an in line release and seal quality check before sign off.
Where this coating belongs
This system targets heat seal bar applications across food packaging, medical device packaging, pharmaceutical pouch lines, and flexible packaging converters. It is engineered specifically for the thermal and mechanical profile of seal bar service. For roll covers, applicator rolls, or extreme release moulds, see the broader extreme release coating family.
Frequently asked
How long does the coating last on a typical heat seal bar?
Service life depends on cycle rate, film chemistry, and operating temperature, but most plants see a 2 to 4 times extension over commodity PTFE recoats. We log service intervals on every job so you have data, not estimates.
Do I have to ship the bar to you?
Yes. Heat seal bars are compact and ship well, so we coat them in our workshop under controlled conditions and return them ready for install. Most converters keep one or two spare bars in rotation, which makes the standard ship in coat ship out workflow the lowest cost option. For production critical lines we offer emergency workshop expedite at 48 to 72 hour turnaround.
Is the coating FDA compliant for food contact?
Yes. The PTFE formulation meets FDA 21 CFR 175.300 for indirect food contact and is suited to food packaging, pharmaceutical pouch, and medical device packaging lines. We provide compliance documentation on request.
What temperature range does the coating handle?
Continuous service to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, intermittent peaks to 550 degrees Fahrenheit. Beyond that range we move you to a different fluoropolymer family. Tell us your operating profile and we will spec accordingly.
How fast is the turnaround?
Standard workshop turnaround: ship the bar, coated and returned in 5 to 7 business days from receipt. Emergency workshop expedite for production critical lines: 48 to 72 hours from receipt with overnight return shipping. Start with a coating review and we will give you a firm schedule and price.
