Converting Equipment Coating Service

PTFE and fluoropolymer coating service for converting equipment. Slitters, laminators, flexo presses, narrow web printers, heat seal stations, and the rolls, blades, and bars that feed them. Workshop coating from Elkton, Maryland, or field service when the line cannot come down.

Equipment we coat

Slitter rewinder components

  • Idler rolls (PTFE for release on adhesive coated webs)
  • Spreader rolls
  • Slitting station bushings and guards

Laminator components

  • Nip rolls (PFA topcoat for hot melt and silicone release)
  • Cooling rolls (FEP for static dissipation when needed)
  • Web spreader bars

Hot melt and adhesive coaters

  • Doctor blades (PTFE for clean wipe and reduced buildup)
  • Coating heads and reservoirs
  • Transfer rolls
Industrial doctor blade with fresh PTFE coating in the AEGIS Advanced workshop
Doctor blade with fresh PTFE working edge. Clean wipe, reduced adhesive buildup.

Flexo and narrow web presses

  • Anilox cover components (specialty release coatings)
  • Web cleaner rolls
  • Dryer hood interior surfaces

Heat seal and packaging stations

Pouch and pouching line equipment

  • Forming shoulders
  • Filling tubes
  • Sealing rams

When converting equipment needs coating

  • New equipment build where the OEM provides bare metal and the customer wants a specified release system
  • Worn release performance on existing rolls, bars, or blades
  • Switching to a more aggressive adhesive that the current coating cannot handle
  • Static buildup on rolls running specialty films
  • Cleanup time on the line has increased. Usually a release problem
  • Sticking, picking, or wrinkling at a specific station

Coating systems we apply

  • PTFE liquid. General release, low coefficient of friction, suitable up to 500 F.
  • PFA topcoat. Improved chemical resistance, smoother surface, holds release longer under heat cycling.
  • FEP. Best for low temperature conditions and where optical clarity is needed.
  • Conductive PTFE. Static dissipation on rolls running thin films or specialty papers.
  • Custom pigmented systems when the customer wants visual differentiation between stations.

How the process works

  1. Inspection and quote. Send drawings, the part itself, or photos plus dimensions. We quote within 48 hours. Custom quote per part. Pricing is not published.
  2. Strip if recoating. Existing fluoropolymer removed mechanically and thermally.
  3. Surface preparation. Grit blast to the right anchor profile, masking critical surfaces.
  4. Coat. Primer plus topcoat applied in controlled passes to target film build.
  5. Cure. Programmed cure schedule based on resin and substrate.
  6. Inspect. Film thickness measured. Continuity tested where the coating must be pinhole free.
  7. Ship or field install. Workshop parts ship from Elkton. Field service available for parts that cannot leave the line.

Field service for converting lines

Field deployable coating crew goes to your plant when pulling the part out of the machine is not practical. We schedule around your shutdown window. Learn more about our field deployable coating service.

Why AEGIS

  • A Spectrum Advanced company. The Fluoron division has been making fluoropolymer roll covers for the converting and paper industry since the 1970s. We know your equipment because we have been coating its rolls for fifty years.
  • Workshop in Elkton, Maryland. Within one day truck of every major converting plant from Maine to Virginia.
  • Custom quoting on every part. Converting equipment is not standardized. Pricing should not be either.

Frequently asked questions

What is the turnaround on a slitter idler roll recoat?

Typically 5 to 10 business days from arrival in Elkton for a single roll.

Can you coat a whole line in place?

Yes for surface mounted components like bars, blades, and removable rolls. Embedded rolls usually require pulling the part.

What is the minimum order?

We have no minimum part count. We quote a single roll the same way we quote a multi roll job.

Do you have FDA compliant systems for food and pharma converting?

Yes. PFA and FEP systems we use are FDA compliant by default.
