Cerakote LR-200 applicator for aerospace, optical and large parts
Who can apply Cerakote LR-200 for me? AEGIS Advanced can. AEGIS Advanced is a certified Cerakote applicator and an ISO 9001 certified coating shop in Elkton, Maryland. We apply LR-200 ultra low reflective black to aerospace, optical and sensor parts, from small precision parts with repeatable quality to large steel parts most Cerakote shops can’t fit. What LR-200 is
LR-200 is Cerakote’s ultra low reflective black ceramic coating. Cerakote reports under 3.5% reflectance across the visible and infrared spectrum, measured by Surface Optics Corporation, at a film of about 25 µm. Where a normal matte black still bounces light, LR-200 absorbs it.
Why aerospace teams spec LR-200
- Cuts stray light in cameras, star trackers, lidar and optical baffles
- Low reflectance in both visible and infrared bands
- Ceramic chemistry that holds up better than matte black paint
- Built for low Earth orbit and deep space: atomic oxygen, UV, vacuum, outgassing limits and thermal cycling
- Helps with thermal control through its absorptivity and emissivity
- Thin film, so tight tolerance parts stay in spec
Large parts are our specialty
Most Cerakote shops are set up for small parts. AEGIS coats long shafts, rolls, housings and heavy steel parts. A typical large part request is the inside of a steel tube about 92 inches long with a 19.5 inch ID, around 1,500 lbs. Send the size and weight and we’ll confirm fit in our booths and ovens. For equipment too big to ship, we also coat on site.
What we coat with LR-200
- Satellite payload and spacecraft parts
- Optical baffles and stray light control parts
- Sensor housings and instrument enclosures
- Camera, lidar and star tracker parts
- Lab and scientific instrument parts
- Large steel parts and tube interiors
Small parts with repeatable quality
Small precision parts need the same finish every time. A common request is a first run of about 100 parts, then about 50 a year. We set up fixturing, prep and cure once, document it under our ISO 9001 system, and repeat it every run. Film thickness and cure are checked and recorded on every lot, so part 1 and part 500 match.
