Low Friction Coatings

Engineered PTFE and PFA systems that cut friction, eliminate galling, and let process material slide off the surface clean. Built for the rollers, slides, and contact surfaces that need both release and a low coefficient of friction.

AEGIS low friction PTFE coated roller in operation, smooth release surface engineered for low coefficient of friction
AEGIS low friction PTFE coated roller in operation.

Why AEGIS low friction

Low friction is not the same as release. Friction is about how the surface behaves when material slides across it under load. AEGIS low friction systems combine PTFE chemistry with controlled surface finish to deliver a coefficient of friction that stays low across temperature and contact pressure. Optional FEP and PFA topcoats add chemical resistance and continuous service temperature headroom.

  • LF300. Standard PTFE low friction system for transport rollers, slides, and process contact surfaces.
  • LF300HT. PFA topcoat grade for elevated temperature service and aggressive chemistries.

How the coating works

Substrate is prepared by AEGIS precision energy surface preparation to create a chemical bond, then PTFE or PTFE PFA dispersions are applied to a uniform thickness and cured by precision magnetic heat activation. The cured film has a coefficient of friction in the 0.05 to 0.10 range against most counter surfaces. Surface finish is controlled to match your application, polished smooth or with a controlled texture for grip.

Typical assets we coat

  • Transport and idler rollers on web handling, film, foil, and paper lines.
  • Slide rails and chute surfaces on packaging, food, and bulk material handling lines.
  • Forming mandrels and tubes on vertical and horizontal wrapping equipment.
  • Sealing bar faces where consistent slip is required as the bar engages and disengages.
  • Cam followers and contact surfaces on indexing and packaging machinery.
  • Mold and die surfaces where parts release and slide off the tool.

Industries served

  • Flexible packaging and converting with web speeds where consistent friction matters.
  • Food and beverage processing with conveyor and chute systems handling sticky product.
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing with high cleanliness and predictable slide behavior.
  • Automotive assembly with cam and slide systems on indexing equipment.
  • Bulk material handling where flow consistency depends on surface friction.

What to send us

To spec the right low friction system we need:

  • Substrate material and surface finish.
  • Geometry: OD, ID, length, or flat dimensions.
  • Counter surface that slides against the coating.
  • Operating temperature and contact pressure.
  • What is currently failing: stick slip, galling, inconsistent web tension, or unacceptable wear.

Frequently asked

What coefficient of friction can AEGIS achieve?

LF300 systems run 0.05 to 0.10 against most counter surfaces, depending on contact pressure and temperature. We can quote a target value with your spec.

How does AEGIS compare to electroless nickel PTFE?

Electroless nickel PTFE plates a composite layer that wears the PTFE off over time. AEGIS applies a continuous fluoropolymer film with a chemical bond to the substrate. Service life is generally longer and the friction stays consistent.

Are AEGIS low friction coatings FDA compliant?

Yes on the systems where it applies. We run FDA compliant PTFE, FEP, and PFA grades for food, beverage, and pharmaceutical contact surfaces.

Can low friction be combined with corrosion or wear?

Yes. Many AEGIS systems are engineered to deliver low friction plus chemical resistance, or low friction plus carbide wear protection. Tell us your full requirement set and we will spec a combined system.

What service temperatures can these coatings handle?

Continuous service to 500°F for PTFE based systems, and to 550°F for PFA topcoats with excursions to 700°F. Tell us your peak and continuous operating temperatures and we will spec accordingly.
