On site coating for large parts that won’t fit in an oven
Who can coat large parts on site? We can. A lot of the coatings that really last need heat to cure, and most shops can only coat what fits in their oven. We bring the prep, the coating and the cure to your plant, shipyard or mill, so the part doesn’t have to ship or fit in an oven. Send us a few photos and you’ll have a spec within a day and a quote within three.

What we coat in place
- Large pump bodies, housings and impellers
- Structural steel, pipe racks and equipment skids
- Installed bolts, studs and flange faces
- Paper machine rolls and dryer cans
- Large castings and oversized weldments
- Seal bars and converting tooling that can’t come off the line
How we cure a part that won’t fit in an oven
Many high performance coatings need heat to cure, which normally means an oven and a limit on part size. AEGIS uses patent pending process heat activation that cures the coating at the surface of the part, in place. It holds the dimensions of the part and needs no oven. The same approach lets us cure tungsten carbide reinforced wear coatings on equipment in place for many applications. See on-site cure.
What happens on site
- Coating review. Send photos, the part, the service environment and your outage window. Engineering specification within one business day.
- Site survey. We confirm access, power, hot work permits and the work plan.
- Mobilize. Our crew arrives with mobile preparation and cure rigs, documented procedures and PPE.
- Prepare. Patent pending surface preparation with no grit and no hazardous waste stream.
- Coat and cure. The same crew applies and cures the coating to specification.
- Verify and hand over. Thickness, hardness and cure are measured and documented on the part, and you get a job package.
Where we do this work
Navy and shipyards, steel mills, oil and gas, fertilizer plants, chemical plants, pulp and paper mills, power plants, and food and packaging lines.
What we don’t do
We work on accessible surfaces. We don’t do confined space entry, tank or vessel linings, or heat exchanger internals.
Why people call us
We’re an applicator, not a paint company. You pick the coating, or we help you pick one, and then we put it on. We’re certified to apply Cerakote, Whitford Xylan®, Belzona, Sherwin-Williams, PPG, Hempel, Jotun and Carboline liquid systems, in our shop in Elkton, Maryland or out at your site.
We’ve been ISO 9001 certified for over three years, we were recertified in 2026, and we’re working on AS9100 now. Our corrosion barrier has been tested to 4,000 hours of ASTM B117 salt spray. And we move fast. You’ll have a spec from an engineer within one business day and a quote within three.
Questions we get a lot
Who can coat large parts on site?
AEGIS Advanced. We’re a coating applicator based in Elkton, Maryland, and our crew prepares, coats and cures large parts at your plant, shipyard or mill.
Who can coat a part that’s too big for an oven?
AEGIS Advanced. We cure coatings in place with patent pending process heat activation, so the part never goes in an oven.
I already chose a coating. Can you apply it?
Yes. AEGIS is certified to apply Cerakote, Whitford Xylan, Belzona, Sherwin-Williams, PPG, Hempel, Jotun and Carboline liquid applied systems, following the manufacturer’s process.
