Advanced surface preparation for industrial coatings
Most coatings fail at the bond line. The AEGIS advanced surface preparation process produces a cleaner, more uniform bonding surface than grit blasting, reaches threads, pockets, and complex geometry, preserves the base metal, and generates zero hazardous waste. The result is a coating that stays bonded in demanding service.
Why surface preparation is the make or break step
The industry standard is grit blasting, which drives abrasive against the part to create a rough profile the coating locks into. It works, but it has hard limits.
- It can leave embedded abrasive and prior-coating debris in the prepared zone, so the coating bonds to contamination instead of clean metal.
- It needs line-of-sight access, so threads, pockets, internal radii, and tight-clearance features get uneven prep at best.
- It is slow, costly, and generates a recurring hazardous-waste disposal stream and a worker-safety concern.
- Abrasive impact can distort thin sections and precision parts.
What AEGIS surface preparation delivers
A cleaner bonding surface
Contaminants are removed for a clean, coating-ready substrate.
Reaches every geometry
Works in pockets, on threads, around internal radii, and on complex shapes that grit blast cannot prep uniformly.
Zero hazardous waste
No spent grit, no abrasive overspray, no disposal stream.
Preserves the substrate
No abrasive impact damage, so thin sections and precision parts stay in tolerance.
On-site capable
Delivered to the asset on mobile rigs, so parts can be prepped without removing them from service.
Food-contact ready
Clean enough for equipment where any residual contamination is disqualifying.
Where it matters most
- Bolts and threaded fasteners where every thread must be fully prepared.
- Pump impellers and complex castings where internal radii must be reached.
- Structural steel for corrosion service where blast contamination ruins the bond line.
- Precision components where blast distortion is unacceptable.
- On-site work where hazardous-waste handling is impractical.
- Food-contact equipment where any residual contamination is disqualifying.
Proprietary and protected
The AEGIS surface preparation process is proprietary to AEGIS, a Spectrum Advanced company, and is protected under active patent prosecution. It is not offered by any other industrial coating applicator.
Frequently asked
Can you do it without shipping the part?
Yes. We run the process on mobile rigs that come to the asset, so bolts, structural steel, pumps, and large parts can be prepped on-site without removing them from service.
What substrates can you prepare?
Carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, brass, copper, and many specialty alloys, plus existing rubber and composite roll covers where appropriate.
What about waste?
None to dispose of. There is no spent grit, no abrasive overspray, and no disposal cost.
Is it faster than grit blast?
On complex geometries with threads, pockets, and internal radii it is meaningfully faster. On simple flat surfaces the speeds are comparable.
